Bio
I have a BA in English from Westmont College, an MA in theology and creative writing from Regent College, and an MFA in creative nonfiction from Seattle Pacific University. I have taught creative writing at the high school and college level.
My essays have appeared in various journals and anthologies, and I wrote Rookie Dad: Thoughts on First-Time Fatherhood.
I believe “that the story of any one of us is in some measure the story of all of us”—a phrase of Frederick Buechner’s I’m fond of stealing.
My wife and I have lived in Southern California, Austria, and British Columbia, and since 2008 we have made our home in central Oregon with our two boys. When not thinking about words, I enjoy disc golfing, hitting the trail with my dog, and rooting for the Timbers.
